Wholly Cow Gelato
This is the time of year where you just want to have something cool and refreshing, especially in this heat wave we are having in the UK at the moment, 30+ degrees WHATTT! Don't worry guys Wholly Cow Gelato's got your back. It is based at Barhouse Farm in a small village called Elmore in Gloucestershire, and is ran by the Hobbs family. So if you are in the area and wanting a taste of Italy, then head down to this farm where they make a wide range of flavoured Italian gelato, using the milk from their cows. They tend to switch up their flavours. For instance, when I went you could pick from either malteser, lemon curd, mint stracciatella, wholly milk, peanut butter, or sea salt caramel. I had two scoops because I'm a big foodie! One being malteser and the other mint stracciatella, both really yummy and creamy, they really captured that Italian essence. If you go on their Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/whollygelato/ , they post the flavours that they would be selling that day. Other flavours include, nutella, coconut, lavender, banoffee, chocolate chilli, raspberry rose, strawberry and I swear I saw somewhere that they do a tiramisu flavour, which I am so excited about as it is my favourite dessert!
Opening times vary, for instance, they open more in summer time from 12pm to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. When I went in April they were open from 2pm till 5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so just keep an eye out for timings during the different seasons. As for getting there you do have to drive down a few country roads, but it is beautiful scenery and there is parking included. However, they do point out on their website not to park at Elmore Court which is a private venue next door to them. As for payment they do take card, but take change just in case and the pricing was really good, I believe I paied just over £2 for 2 scoops. As for accessiblity, there weren't any steps and it is pretty flat the whole way through. Just behind the place where you get your gelato is an eating area set outside in their barn where you can sometimes see the cows roaming about.

As well as making their own gelato they also make their own butter and sell the milk they make from their cows. The cows themselves are very much looked after by the family, as they get a lot of fresh air and roam about in the fields. The family further express on the history page on their website that "the cows mean a lot to us, they deserve the best and after all they do a great job producing our milk".
Having won the 'Taste of Gloucestershire Food and Farming Awards' back in 2017 and this year winning the 'Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards', you will not be disappointed. So if your out and about or wanting to take the kiddies somewhere on a hot day then pop down for a delicious Italian treat.
