Homemade Gnocchi and Butternut Squash Pesto

Image
For those of you who have seen some of my previous posts, you'll know that I have kinda been obssessed with pesto and butternut squash this year, so I thought I would combine the two to make a butternut squash pesto! You will still get the traditional, flavoursome basil pesto, but adding the butternut squash gives that extra hint of sweetness and creamy feel that compliments it beautifully. Now for the gnocchi that's another story 😂, I hadn't made it before and I wouldn't call it a complete disaster because it was edible enough to eat and did taste fine. However, I messed up one of the steps in the instructions, which made the mixture go runny, but as they say "if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again". I used a gnocchi recipe from the 'Simply Italian - Cooking at Home with the Chiappa Sisters'. You don't have to use this specific one, you can use any gnocchi recipe from cookbooks you may have lying around at home or on the intern...

Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey:The Lost Legacy of Highclere (book)

Image
A historical read about the high class family that is the Carnarvons. It is written in a non-linear narrative by the current Eighth Countess of Carnarvon, Fiona. She has focused on the late 1800s to the 1920s, covering the fifth Countess, Almina Carnarvon, her family, friends and the events that took place in that period, such as the rules of that society, war and the discovery of Tutankhamun. She really captures the raw emotion, style and many other details from her husband's ancestors and that period. It is factual, but has the rhythm and attributes of a story. For example, a couple sections remind me of a 'Cinderella moment', where a young Almina isn't included fully into society, until she attends a ball and the Fifth Earl of Carnarvon, George, catches her eye. You will further notice that many events reflect upon the well known television show 'Downton Abbey', such as motor incidents, war, women and politics. For example, Lady Almina gives stron...

Wholly Cow Gelato

Image
This is the time of year where you just want to have something cool and refreshing, especially in this heat wave we are having in the UK at the moment, 30+ degrees WHATTT! Don't worry guys Wholly Cow Gelato's got your back. It is based at Barhouse Farm in a small village called Elmore in Gloucestershire, and is ran by the Hobbs family. So if you are in the area and wanting a taste of Italy, then head down to this farm where they make a wide range of flavoured Italian gelato, using the milk from their cows. They tend to switch up their flavours. For instance, when I went you could pick from either malteser, lemon curd, mint stracciatella, wholly milk, peanut butter, or sea salt caramel. I had two scoops because I'm a big foodie! One being malteser and the other mint stracciatella, both really yummy and creamy, they really captured that Italian essence. If you go on their Facebook site:  https://www.facebook.com/whollygelato/  , they post the flavours that they would be s...

The Old Cinema - Antique, Vintage, Retro

Image
I stumbled across this old fashioned cinema that has now been converted into this beautiful, vintage, antique centre, you'll find anything you need for that retro look in your life. Full of fashion, furniture, old cameras, jewellery, art and little nick-nacks, a combination of all my favourite things, cinema and vintage goods.   It is located in Chiswick-London, which in itself is a beautiful part of the city. It's a slightly quieter area of London, with many restaurants, such as Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Pizza Express as well as independent cafes and shops. Having said that, it is a great place to stay over night and is about 30  minutes from the city centre by bus.  Having an interest in fashion, I loved that there were many unique, vintage pieces. Some were even designer, for instance there is an eclectic display of Christian Dior sunglasses that are still pricey, but are cheaper than a brand new piece of the designers' collection. I further found some pu...

The Giggling Squid Restaurant

Image
The taste of Thai at the 'Giggling Squid', will have you wanting and 'giggling' for more. An idea formed by a couple in Brighton, who wanted to create authentic, fresh Thai dishes from tapas, to curry, to stir fry, fish, noodles and so on. They also do desserts and vegan dishes. Below is an image of the lunch menu. For the full menu go to their website, which I have linked at the bottom of this page. Cheltenham Lunch Menu (Click to enlarge)  Starting off from not having much money and no idea where it would lead them, their hard work and dedication has paid off and now they have stabilised a chain of restaurants dotted around the UK. Living in Gloucestershire I went to the one in Cheltenham, which is based at the top of Montpellier Street. Other places where it is located are Bath, Chichester, Oxford, Windsor, Wimbledon, Clifton and many more. As well as paying for an exquisite meal you are also paying for a beautiful interior experience, as it is covered in ...

Art: My Drawings

Image
(2019) Just wanted to note that this isn't a Marilyn Monroe dedicated post, even though she is a Queen😂. This is just the recent drawing that I have done and I wanted to share this post with you about my passion for drawing.  I've always been creative since being a child and I studied art at GCSE and A-Level and did an Art and Design Foundation course. I've also just finished an interior design short course, which was so fun, I highly recommend it. I will do a post about it soon!  I first started to draw portraits when I was 16 starting my A-Level art course and looking back to when I started, it used to cringe me out to be honest, because wow I thought they were so good. However, now I try and see them as wow you have come so far and it shows how you have improved, and still wanting to improve, which is how you should look at anything that you do. The first one I drew was of myself as a 5 year old in Australia and then I thought oh okay not bad, so I drew one...
