Yesterday (Film Review)

Star Rating: ✩✩✩✩

A romantic comedy centered around a world where the 'The Beatles' don't exist and only one man, Jack Malik (Himesh Patel) remembers them! Struggling to make it in the music world, Jack jumps at the chance to bring back some of the world's greatest music by going solo and re-educating the human race with what it had lost 'Yesterday'. However would he risk giving up being the legends that were 'The Beatles' for the women he loves?!

Director, Danny Boyle and screenwriter, Richurd Curtis combine all elements that portray into a romantic comedy, love, laughter, silliness and unique whacky storylines. This story may entail the mystery of 'The Beatles' disappearing from life along with some other significant factors, such as Coca Cola and more importantly Harry Potter, ummm, sorry, WHAT?!?! However, we have a romantic side to the storyline between musician Jack and his manager Ellie (Lily James), who have grown up together in Suffolk. They are clearly made to be together, but Jack's sudden fame has got him flying to LA, playing in arenas and working with highly qualified business people in the music industry, such as Ed Sheeran and his crazy manager. All of these extra factors in Jack's life have caused a blockage between them and it tests whether true love overrides anything, especially when a spotlight has finally been shone on you.

For young and old, this movie is for all generations. One of today's best songwriters, Ed Sheeran, makes an appearence and plays quite a lengthly part in the film. With his modern music charm he changes one of the iconic song names from 'Hey Jude' to 'Hey Dude'. James Corden makes an appearence too, along with Meera Syal, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Dominic Coleman and many other stars. Possibly the brightest star is someone that Jack is eager to see down in a secluded house by the sea. I'll give you a hint, think of the visual aid that Harry Potter wears on his face, any ideas?

All in all, a truly gleeful romcom that shows 'The Beatles' are still musically powerful and can win over a crowd, however some people may think "well it's not Coldplay, it's not Fix You"- as said by Carol (Sophia Di Martino).
