An ornament for an occasion

I thought I'd start things off by posting the thing that made me have a spark in starting this blog, which was making homemade gifts for people. I wanted to make a homemade gift for my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary and I was finding some inspiration on Pinterest, which as many of you know is such as great place to find inspiration. I saw a lot of dangling decorations, as you can see from the picture below which helped spark my idea for the ornament that I wanted to create. I am happy to say that my parents loved this gift and if you wanted to make one yourself for a loved one I will leave a step by step guide on how to create the ornament that I designed.

What you will need:

*Jar lid    *Bottle top    *Rose charms from the brand Santoro (use the four blue flowers)

*16 pearl beads     *A piece of white ribbon     *A printed out piece of an old letter (Google images)

*Silver leaf     *White acrylic paint     *1 screw eye     *1 black biro pen

*Super glue or hot glue gun    *Pencil

Step by step method:

1. First of all get your jar lid and paint it white, the jar lid I had was black so it doesn't matter how dark your lid is just keep layering coats of paint on until it is fully white. It took 3 coats to fully cover my lid, but remember to let it dry in between.

2. Next, paint your screw eye and bottle top white and set aside for later.

3. Now take your four blue rose charms and paint them white. Whilst they are still wet apply the silver leaf with just using your fingers, it can be a bit fiddly so just be patient. Once they are all done set aside for later.

4. After, use the lid as a template and roughly draw the outline of a circle around your printed out piece of old letter. Make sure you draw it a bit bigger than needed and keep cutting round until it fits inside the lid correctly. Once the lid is dry take your glue and stick your cut out circled old piece of letter inside the lid.

5. Once your screw eye is dry, start to screw it in to the top edge of your lid until it is fully secure.

6. Next glue on your bottle top to the centre of the inside lid and then glue your roses equally spaced in the corners of your lid.

7. After get your pearl beads and glue 12 of them equally spaced around the edge of your lid. Then glue 4 beads equally spaced on top of the bottle top. Keep in mind it depends how big your lid is so you may need more or less beads.

8. next take your black pen and write what ever message you want on top of your bottle top. For instance, I wrote "Jane 25 Michael".

9. Lastly, get your ribbon and thread one end through the the screw eye and tie the two ends together.

Top Tip: Instead of buying ribbons, some of your clothes have them that are used to help hang them on hangers, or in my case are there to annoy you when wearing them 😂. Therefore, I usually cut them off and keep them for a craft project.

Once you have finished you can then display it anywhere in your house. For example, My parents decided to hang it on this metal wall hanging that they have in the hallway as you can see from the images below.
I hope you have enjoyed making this creation and that who ever you give it to loves it as well ❤️. On another occasion you can change up the colours and add different elements to the ornament. For example, if you are making one for Valentines day you can have red and pink colours with hearts instead of flowers.
