Ultracomida Spanish Delicatessen
Ultracomida is an authentic Spanish Delicatessen in the heart of Wales, which is very random and I love it because it adds a fun twist to the Welsh towns. So if you are wanting fluffy patatas bravas, crunchy fresh fish, a traditional Spanish tortilla, a super thick creamy Spanish hot chocolate and much more then don't hesitate for a moment if you spot an Ultracomida!

It's a small chain, as there are only three of them. One is in Narberth and the other two are in Aberystwyth and Cardiff. The one in Cardiff is actually called Curado Bar, which is slightly different to the other two as the layout isn't a delicatessen or restaurant, it's a modern, industrial bar but serves the same authentic Spanish food and drink. I've been to the Narberth Ultracomida a few times now and the Aberystwyth one once. As you enter the building you come into the delicatessen and shop area where you'll find a selection of meats, such as salami, chorizo, ham etc. They also have an array of olives and pickles to pick from, as well as cheese, breads and Spanish nibbles such as, crackers and nuts. There's an eceltic of jars filled with sauces, oils, jams and honey. At the counter they usually have free samples. This can be cheese, meats, nuts etc. For example, I went in the other day and they had breadsticks with a garlic mayo dip which tasted so good.
As you walk past the shop area you will find a counter where you can take away a slice of their signature, traditional Spanish tortilla which is my favourite thing to have their, as it is so rich in flavour which combines well with the velvety texture. It comes with a side salad and allioli (creamy, thick garlic mayonnaise). The other goodness that you can take away is their signature paella which contains an array of meats such as rabbit. You can also take away cold drinks and a piece of cake such as rocky road, a brownie, millionaire shortbread etc.

In the restaraunt and bar area there are three big tables that you share with others, so as well as consuming authentic food you are also getting a continental experience. It is a tapas menu, so for a main I would recommend to order a few things and the pricing is really reasonable. For instance, I shared some patatas bravas, a slice of Spanish tortilla, some deep fried fish, garlic mushrooms with cream and sherry served on toast and belly pork slow cooked in Spanish cider, served with crushed garlic potatoes. So yummy you really could tell that they source their goods from Spain.

Now for dessert, I actually didn't have any but my mum had the Spanish hot chocolate which I tried and it was insane. It has an intense chocolate flavour and being so thick and creamy they recommend to dunk churros in. What makes it so thick is the cornflour and it has a hint of cinnamon and vanilla infused which compliments the chocolate beautifully. Don't worry if you don't like cinnamon, as there is only a hint of it and my mum isn't a fan and she loved it. You can buy the hot chocolate in the shop, which of course we did! There are two kinds which are the breakfast chocolate and the one we had which is the Spanish hot chocolate. I think the breakfast one you can have hot or cold like a milkshake and I couldn't find cornflour on the ingredients so I don't think it is as thick. We bought the Spanish hot chocolate and the lady who works there said to make sure the milk is at boiling point otherwise it won't thicken properly. I am currently drinking some as I am writing this post and my mum actually added a couple more tablespoons than what it said because it wasn't thickening. The end result was absolute heaven!!! Also how vintage and cute are the tins that they come in! Definately going to be using it as a display piece.

Their website has an online shop, here is the link: https://www.ultracomida.co.uk/
